Key Chiropractic Midland

Key Chiropractic has looked after the Midland community from 6 Victoria Street — just across from Midland Gate shopping centre, near the corner of Cale Street — for more than two decades. The practice was formerly known as Main Chiropractic and has been under the direction of principal chiropractor Dr Scott Lieschke since 2003. In that time it has become a familiar fixture for families throughout the Swan Valley and the Perth hills.

The practice is built around family care in the broadest sense. Patients range from babies and young children through to older adults, and the clinic describes those it serves as spanning all races, creeds, age groups and political beliefs. Dr Lieschke works with people presenting with back and neck pain, chronic headaches and sports-related complaints, and adapts his method to the person in front of him rather than the reverse — a hands-on adjustment for some, an activator instrument or slow, sustained pressure for others. With infants and young children the practice uses light fingertip pressure of the kind you could tolerate over a closed eyelid.

Care is structured in stages. It begins with an initial consultation and an orthopaedic and neurological examination, followed by a report of findings explained in plain language before any treatment starts. No GP referral is needed to make an appointment. The practice sees Department of Veterans' Affairs patients, accepts workers' compensation and motor vehicle claims, participates in the Medicare Enhanced Primary Care program, and processes private health fund claims. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or EFTPOS. Fees are quoted case by case, so patients are encouraged to ring the clinic on (08) 9274 1471 to discuss cost before booking.

The atmosphere is deliberately unpretentious. Staff make a point of using patients' names and explaining things without medical jargon, and Dr Lieschke also gives health presentations to local community groups. Beyond the treatment room, the practice puts weight on what patients can do at home — stretching, strengthening and ergonomic habits, particularly for young people spending long hours at screens.
