About Southside Spine and Sport

Southside Spine and Sport is a chiropractic clinic in Bicton, tucked behind the Coles Click and Collect on Fifth Street and serving Bicton and the surrounding riverside suburbs. It is led by Dr Russell Jensen, who studied chiropractic at Murdoch University and has practised since 2015. He traces his interest in the profession to his own childhood, when chiropractic care resolved a gait issue, and describes his motivation simply: he became a chiropractor because he wanted to be the person who actually makes the change.

Several years into practice Dr Jensen encountered Integrative Diagnosis and travelled to the United States for multiple intensive courses in it. That test, treat and retest framework is now the backbone of how the clinic assesses and works, and it sits alongside focused shockwave therapy, which he has used since 2023. He also trained in Active Release Technique in Brisbane, and notes openly that he is not currently certified in it. The practice works to a treatment-first philosophy — where it is clinically appropriate, treatment begins at the first appointment rather than a visit later — and low-force or instrument-assisted alternatives are offered to patients who would rather not be adjusted by hand.

Fees are published openly. An initial appointment is $145, a standard appointment $82 and an extended appointment $128, with a concession rate of $72 and Medicare EPC plan visits at $82. Department of Veterans' Affairs patients are bulk billed. The clinic uses HICAPS so private health rebates can be claimed on the spot, and shockwave therapy is included in the standard visit fee at no extra charge rather than billed as a surcharge.

Much of the caseload is active, with a particular interest in sports presentations and volleyball-specific care, and there is kerbside parking plus free parking across the road at Melville Plaza. Away from the clinic, Dr Jensen is a father of two, with his wife Fiona and their sons Ollie and Jimmy, and produces music as a hobby.
