About Bulk Billing Chiropractors

Chiropractic isn’t covered under standard Medicare. To access any Medicare rebate for chiro, you need a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan — sometimes called an EPC or Team Care Arrangement — set up by your GP. To qualify, you generally need to have a chronic condition that has lasted 6 months or longer, or multiple health conditions being managed simultaneously. Once your GP refers you, Medicare covers up to 5 allied health visits per calendar year. This includes chiropractic, but also physiotherapy, podiatry, and other allied health — so those 5 visits are shared across all allied health providers, not 5 per provider.

The Medicare rebate for a chiropractic visit is approximately $52–56. Most chiropractors charge their standard consultation fee (typically $60–$90+) and you receive the Medicare rebate back, leaving a gap payment. A bulk billing chiropractor is a clinic that accepts the Medicare rebate as full payment — no gap. Not all chiropractors offer this, which is why we’ve built this filter to help you find the ones that do.

You may be eligible if you have a CDM plan from your GP with a referral to a chiropractor, have not already used your 5 allied health visits for the calendar year, and have a valid Medicare card. If you’re unsure whether you qualify, start with your GP — they can assess your eligibility and set up the referral.

Not eligible for a CDM plan? You can still reduce your costs through private health insurance extras cover with HICAPS on-the-spot claiming, DVA coverage for veterans, WorkCover for workplace injuries, or clinics offering reduced-fee initial consultations.
